“The film must extend itself beyond its own limits, right into where we are, where we live, we who are the protagonists of all stories.”

Transmissions Festival returns to Ravenna from Thursday, November 20th to Saturday, November 22nd with a tribute to Red Desert (Il Deserto Rosso) by Michelangelo Antonioni, the cult 1964 movie shot in the city, which has become a cross-disciplinary reference point for musicians and artists from all over the world.
Stephen O’Malley, sound architect and founder of the legendary Sunn O))), master of drone/doom; the Lebanese sextet SANAM, with its unique blend of psychedelia, jazz, traditional Arabic singing, and contemporary poetry; Texan songwriter Micah P. Hinson, creator of stark and narratively dense folk ballads, balancing confession and romantic resistance; Index For Working Musik, a London quintet digging into post-punk and art-rock with lyrical, desert-like tension; WOW, a cult band from the Roman scene, with their nocturnal, sensual songs tinged with psychedelia.
Two special projects by Bruno Dorella, musician, sound designer and founder of OvO, who will provide a live score for "Il Gigante di Ravenna", the historic 1957 documentary directed by Fernando Cerchio and dedicated to the birth and early days of the ANIC plant; and by Adriano Zanni, photographer, field recording artist and creator of electroacoustic landscapes, who will present "ANIC", a sonic and visual investigation of Ravenna’s industrial landscape.
“There’s something terrible about reality, and I don’t know what it is. Nobody tells me.”
