About the event

Swiftwater Rescue Technician (Burlington NJ)
During this 2 day (16 hour) course you'll learn all of the essential skills needed to perform a rescue of a single or multiple subjects in a swiftwater (moving water) environment. Swiftwater is generally classified as performing rescues in a whitewater river setting, but these skills cover other types of situations like high volume Class II rivers, flood waters, etc. Rope awareness is included in this course as ropes are a skillset under the swiftwater rescue technician discipline. This specific course is a hybrid Swiftwater Rescue Technician/Rescue Swimmer.

Prerequisite for this course:
- HAZMAT Awareness
- Swiftwater Rescue Operations
- FEMA IS 100, 200 & 700
- CPR
- MUST be 18 years of age or older to enroll in this course
- STOP THE BLEED (just the virtual online portion, we will conduct the in-person skills during the course) If you are an EMT, EMT-P, EMR, TECC or TCCC you can bypass this prerequisite

Required equipment for this course:
- Dry or wet suit is only required if it is cold (under 55 degrees) at the location of the course. We do conduct PPE drills, so it is recommended to have your own suit.
- Helmet: NRS havoc, Kask plasma, or something similar.
- Whistle: a loud maritime rated whistle is recommended (80dB or higher)
- Gloves: make sure the gloves are full fitted, don't restrict finger movement, have a velcro or snap lashing on the top of the wrist and are durable. Any A rating is fine.
- Footwear: tennis shoes or low profile shoes are the first choice for professional SWR Technicians. Duty boots or water boots will work, but those are more for floodwater rescue and will restrict your swimming capabilities. Socks should be merino wool or similar material.
- Short fins: we require these if the SWRT course is being held with a Rescue Swimmer component or in open water. We can provide these for you.
- Headlamp: we conduct a night operation portion during the course to keep it NFPA and NPS compliant. This is mandatory in ALL SWRT courses. A good quality, waterproof headlamp with red light is the requirement. Be sure to have extra batteries.
- Large duffel bag to store all of your equipment/gear.
- 3 green glow sticks and 2 red glow sticks. Purchase a good quality chemlight brand.

We offer this course in multiple locations. We can also offer this course in your location. Call our office to inquire about this (518) 418-5058 or email us at bnJyaWVkdWNhdGlvbiB8IGdtYWlsICEgY29t
