The banners of the King of England do fly upon our soil, and the chivalry of France doth answer with shield and lance. In the shadow of Rouen’s walls, the forests are astir, for all folk of courage and craft are summoned. Hark ye, for the fields shall be filled with deeds worthy of the ancients, and the tale of Rouen shall be writ by thine own hand. Twice before hath the road to Rouen been contested, and twice hath the fleur-de-lis prevailed. Yet now, the lion-hearted English return, seeking to wrest the road from France’s grasp. Who shall hold it now? Will the lilies bloom thrice, or shall St. George’s cross at last ride triumphant? What is Road to Rouen? It is a grand 14th-century immersive event within the SCA. Here, each participant pledges their allegiance—either to the French cause or the English crown. You’ll find yourself not merely watching but living history. Lords will receive sealed messages run by swift couriers. In the woods, you’ll walk through living war camps—fires crackling as cooks prepare meals, knights arming with the help of squires, and artisans crafting with period tools. Throughout the day, you’ll engage in deeds of valor in the woods, learn from 14th-century classes, and even test your skill in an archery tournament. It is a world where cooks, châtelaines, and men-at-arms breathe life into the past. At Road to Rouen, you are not just a spectator; you are a living thread in the medieval tapestry.” Road to Rouen is a fully immersive 14th-century SCA event, held at Camp Timbercrest, 1169 Moore Rd, Randolph, NY. The event runs September 11th–13th, with the Deed of Arms in the woods starting at noon on Saturday and concluding around 5 PM. Bellinger Lodge can sleep 36 in a slumber-party setup and offers a dining hall and a commercial kitchen. Jackman Lodge sleeps 32, and yurts and cabin tent units add more sleeping capacity. The site features an archery range and ample space for medieval camps. Sam Awry is the English captain, and Duke Maynard is tentatively the French captain. Hosted by the Shire of Heronter, this immersive event emphasizes period encampments, martial activities, archery, Arts & Sciences, and life on campaign in the late 1300s. Previous iterations of this event have drawn over 200 attendees, and we look forward to welcoming returning and new participants alike. Activities will include Heavy Fighting, Archery, Arts & Sciences classes, and period social activities. Additional classes and activities may be scheduled throughout the weekend. Troll will be open on Friday, September 11, from 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., and on Saturday, September 12, from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The site will close at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, and all participants must be off site by that time. The site offers primitive and semi-primitive camping, indoor restroom and shower facilities, open fields suitable for martial activities, and an established archery range. Participants may also bring and use their own **above-ground fire pits** at their campsites. **No new ground fires may be created.** Fires must be contained either in an existing designated fire pit/fire circle or in a participant-provided above-ground fire pit. Please plan accordingly if your encampment would like its own fire during the weekend. ## CAMP TIMBERCREST AMENITIES Camp Timbercrest is a large wooded property centered around the 31-acre Keyser Lake. Please note that the presence of a facility or piece of equipment on site does not necessarily mean it is available for unrestricted participant use. Event staff will provide information concerning any scheduled activities or facilities available during the weekend. ## NAVIGATION AT CAMP For site safety and in accordance with Girl Scouts of Western New York requirements, we will **not be distributing or posting a Camp Timbercrest site map publicly prior to the event**. Don't worry — you will not be left wandering around 900 acres looking for Rouen! **Site maps and directional information will be available at Troll/check-in**, and event staff will help direct attendees to parking, lodging areas, camping areas, and event activities upon arrival. Additional directional signage will be posted around the site as appropriate. We recommend arriving at camp with what you need rather than planning on frequent supply runs. ## DAY TRIP REGISTRATION AND LODGING “Day Trip” refers to the registration category. **Day-trip registrants may still stay overnight on site** if desired and space is available. If you intend to stay overnight, please make sure you select a lodging/camping preference on the preregistration form even if you are registering as a day tripper. ## FOOD There is **NO FEAST** included with Road to Rouen III. Participants should plan accordingly for their own food needs. Additional event-specific information concerning food, camp kitchens, fires, and cooking arrangements will be provided as we get closer to the event. ## PETS Camp Timbercrest does not permit pets. Qualified service animals are permitted under the site's rules. ## ALCOHOL Alcohol at the event will be limited to **beer and wine** and will operate in accordance with Camp Timbercrest/GSWNY requirements and New York State regulations.
