Join Cayetano Talavera, fiber and natural dye artist, for a 2-hour hands-on workshop exploring the colors of local plants and kitchen scraps. You'll learn to extract dyes from onion skins and black walnuts, and apply them to pretreated silk and cotton fabrics. Participants will also learn basic resist-tying techniques to create one-of-a-kind patterns on silk and cotton bandanas.

This workshop is beginner-friendly, so come ready to experiment, get creative, and discover the beauty of natural colors. Space is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot.

Artist Bio: Cayetano Talavera is a fiber and natural-dye artist who explores color, texture, and materials through intentional, creative reuse. Inspired by local plants, kitchen scraps, and fabric remnants, he transforms overlooked materials into wearable art. He leads workshops that invite participants to experiment with color, fiber manipulation, and self-expression, emphasizing accessibility, creativity, and a hands-on connection to fiber as a medium. Through his work, Cayetano celebrates resourcefulness and craftsmanship.

This workshop is a partnership between Maloof Foundation and Sandalwood Farm and Sanctuary, presenting Living Pallet, an exploration of foodways, nature, and art. In collaboration with UCCE Master Food Preserver, with funding support from the Rancho Cucamonga Community and Arts Foundation. Workshops will be held at the Maloof Foundation and are free and open to the public. These accessible workshops emphasize the vital role of food preservation, gardening, and creative expression in connecting individuals to cultural and ecological heritage. Families and youth are welcome, and space is limited.

This program is sponsored by the Rancho Cucamonga Community and Arts Foundation.
