Following the success of our initial programme of creative workshops in 2024, funded by Creative Lives Know Your Neighbourhood, and following further funding, we can now offer more creative opportunities!
Lantern-making extraordinaires Light Whale International will be leading four fun, free, community lantern-making sessions in Chatteris.
Join us at King Edward Community Centre on a drop-in basis (no need to book – just come over and see us!) All materials will be provided and the activity is suitable for all ages and abilities.
Our first session will be on Friday 21 November, 1pm-4pm.
Come along and make beautiful lanterns which you’ll also have the chance to show off in our Light Up the Town parade in February.
At the lantern making workshops you can expect to:
-Bend, tape and cut flexible willow branches to create the 3D frame of your lantern;
-Wrap and attach LED lights to the willow frame;
-Layer wet-strength tissue paper onto your frame using a glue mixture – expect to get messy!
-Discover techniques for waterproofing and decorating your lantern;
-Receive a very warm welcome from, and conversation with, artists from Light Whale International and the MarketPlace Arts team!
Accessibility:
-Pre-cut willow will be available for those with reduced strength/mobility in their hands/wrists and for very young attendees.
-For people with sensory differences, we will have latex gloves available for interacting with the glue mixture. Alternatively members of the team will be available to assist throughout.
Drop-in anytime between 1pm-4pm at King Edward Community Centre, Chatteris, PE16 6NG
Cost: Free.
Family friendly.
No need to book.
