How and what do we want to document today to share with the future? This workshop explores how we can use zines to record and reclaim our personal and community histories, because anyone can make a zine, and anyone can be an archivist. In the first 20 minutes, we will define the concepts of archives and zines together, and imagine how zines can be tools for affirming and shaping collective memory. We will spend the rest of the time working on our own zine projects. Supplies will be provided, and participants are encouraged to bring stories, concepts, or materials (photocopies or originals) from their own personal archives and memories to integrate into an 8-page mini zine. Space is limited; pre-registration is required. Please register by reserving your spot(s) on Eventbrite. This workshop is presented by the NC State University Libraries’ Special Collections Research Center and is part of the Learning is Fun Family Series. The workshop will be offered as part of Zine Folk NC, a free, day-long celebration of zines, small press comics and print media at Artspace.
