Hello everyone -- we are dancing this Saturday afternoon (December 13th) at 12:30PM in the Sanctuary at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Raleigh.
Nicholas will be weaving a birthday set for their set weaving debut !!!
Consider coming early before dance with your lunch, and stay after for celebratory birthday hangs for Nicholas (and Caroline)!
< Location Information >
If you park in the front parking lot (off of Wade Avenue) and face the building complex, there is a larger entrance on your left where the Sanctuary and Music Room are, an outdoor walkway that will lead you down to the bottom floors, and a smaller entrance on your right (where we would typically dance in the past). The larger entrance on your left will lead you right to the main sanctuary where we'll be dancing!
If you enter into the back parking lot (from Dogwood Lane), the road will take you up the hill to the front parking lot.

Raleigh Ecstatic Dance is an intentional space where people of all races, ages, genders, and socio-economic classes are openly welcome to unite in the experience of an authentic moment. It is a physical and mental rehabilitation that strips down the interactions between the individual self, music, and others.
Ecstatic dance is a form of abandonment, meaning, there are no steps to follow. The rhythm of the music will become one’s only guidance and is intended to open the individual to the purest form of ecstasy: life.
There is no wrong way to dance. All forms of activity that are grounded in the spirit of consent are encouraged and often range from sitting peacefully on the outskirts of the dancefloor to thrashing one’s limbs around like a wild monkey.
This space promotes raw forms of expression without shoes or talking. Attendees are encouraged to come sober to ensure a mindful and wholesome container!
The dance is guided through a wave of music woven upon the theory of Five Rhythms: beginning with flow, moving to staccato, chaos, (lyrical) playfulness, and settling into stillness. The music sets last about 90 minutes with an opening and closing circle at the beginning and end of the dance.

Additional Notes:
- Reminder: Seek non-verbal queues of consent (eye contact and open arms means 'YES'. Arms crossed, no eye contact, avoidance means 'NO'). Accept the 'NO' (it's okay if someone doesn't want to dance with you at a particular point in time; this is a great way to learn about boundaries!)
