- **Event Description**: Please join us at our monthly Buddy Check 22 social event for veteran suicide prevention. Everyone is invited! We welcome veterans from all branches of service along with family, friends, and anyone who would like to help prevent veteran suicides.

We meet on the 22nd of each month from 6:00-8:00 PM at MACADO'S IN RADFORD.  Macado's offers a 50% discount on all food.

A 2013 study by the Department of Veteran Affairs showed that 22 veterans take their own lives every day. Although that number has fluctuated a bit since then, the number 22 has become the symbol of veteran suicide prevention. Buddy Check 22 is a national program aimed at preventing veteran suicides. The program does this by having veterans call each other on the 22nd of the month to check in and ensure everyone is doing okay.  We support this program in the New River Valley by hosting social events on the 22nd of each month where veterans can gather together, have a good time, and build healthy relationships. The ultimate goal is that whenever veterans find themselves in a time of need, they know there is someone who understands their struggle.  And hopefully those veterans will reach out out and ask for help.
