🌠Join us for a special event to mark International Dark Sky Week 2026, hosted by BirdLife Malta and the Astronomical Society of Malta.

After meeting at the designated point, participants will be introduced to the site and the importance of this coastal area for seabirds.

A representative from BirdLife Malta will give a short talk on the significance of these cliffs for breeding shearwaters, particularly the vulnerable Yelkouan Shearwater, and the threats they face, including light pollution along Malta’s coastline – the central theme of this event.

The Astronomical Society of Malta will also speak about the impacts of light pollution on the night sky and explain how responsible lighting can help protect both wildlife and our view of the stars.

As darkness falls, participants will have the opportunity to listen for the calls of shearwaters returning to their nesting cliffs while observing stars and distant galaxies through telescopes.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience Malta’s natural heritage at its most magical. ⭐

To minimise disturbance to seabirds, we will use red torchlight during the event. Please ensure you are comfortable being outdoors after dark and wear appropriate footwear before signing up.

❕Participation is limited so early registration is recommended. As places are limited, we kindly ask participants to register only if they are certain they can attend, so that others do not miss the opportunity to join.
