In 2027 Indiana Audubon invites you to join us on a new birding adventure across Ecuador. Few places on earth can rival Ecuador for sheer diversity in a short span. In less than two weeks, you’ll travel from the Andean highlands down to Amazonian foothills, through cloud forests bursting with tanagers, hummingbirds, and trogons. If you’ve enjoyed Panama, Costa Rica, or Colombia, Ecuador will raise the bar.
As part of Indiana Audubon’s conservation commitment, a portion of trip fees will support ongoing bird conservation projects in Ecuador.
Trip Leaders: Brad Bumgardner is the executive director for Indiana Audubon and has assisted or led literally thousands of individual hikes and tours, including Peru, Cuba, Costa Rica, and Ecuador. This tour is being put together in partnership with Lifer Nature Tours, who will be securing transportation and guiding services during the trip.

Indiana Audubon Field Trip Ratings for this trip include:
Birding Pace: 4. Extended Tour. Multiple days with early starts. On certain days guests may have the opportunity to take a break from the regular activities to enjoy an afternoon at the hotel. Joining for the early morning birding is highly encouraged as it is the bird’s most active time.
Physical Requirements: 3. Moderate. Ecuador is a mountainous country. Participants can expect one or two miles or more of hiking per day at a birding pace on rough terrain and elevation under 10,000 feet. Higher altitude birding (up to 14,000 in Pappalacta Pass) is done at a much slower pace from the vehicle.
Birding Skill Level: 3. Mid-Level. An extensive knowledge of local species is not necessary, but participants should be familiar with most bird families. Studying expected species prior to the trip is highly recommended.
This trip involves travel on roads in Ecuador that may be unpaved or bumpy. Destinations are often on long, bumpy van or bus rides. Participants with motion sickness may want to seek Medic*tion beforehand. The climate is warm and humid in the foothills, and cooler in the higher Andes. Though we will be visiting during the dry season, rain is possible every day, with concentrated small, heavy bursts that should not interrupt birding too much.
The trip limit is 6-10 participants. Prices are based on double occupancy.
