Just by using a single picture, we can convey simple, interesting stories. But when we arrange multiple pictures together in a sequence, and in a certain way, we are able to communicate more complex and engaging stories with even more clarity. Some examples of sequential art are ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, Frescoes of Byzantine churches, comics, picture books, and even Ikea furniture assembly instructions!In this 6 session beginner course, you will learn and practice basic principles that will allow you to tell clear, simple stories using sequential art, using both words and pictures. You will be drawing out short stories from your own life which you will be able to share with friends and loved ones, or keep as memories for yourself. With these skills, you will be able to apply them to daily visual journals or even travel journals, and more.Pen and ink will be our primary medium, combined with other colouring tools and techniques. If you’ve taken previous pen and ink classes, and are confident in drawing, that will be beneficial. But if you are a total beginner at drawing, we will be revisiting some basics of drawing and colouring, so you will be fine!Learning OutcomesLesson 1 - How to create a short sequence using multiple pictures.Drawing people and objects simply, how to choose which moment to capture, eye flow, tonal values and drawing spontaneously.Lesson 2- How to draw a conversation scenePlacing speech bubbles in the correct order, and how to make conversations look natural.
