We’re hosting a drop in session where you can stop by to chat with staff about a potential new long term disposal strategy for Shotover Wastewater Treatment Plant.
All are welcome, drop by at anytime.
About the project
In response to the challenges with the disposal field at Shotover WWTP, QLDC allocated $77.5M through the Long Term Plan 2024-2034 to implement a new disposal strategy for the facility.
This project commenced in October 2024 and a new disposal solution is expected to be in operation by the end of 2030.
The project aims to determine and implement a new solution to discharge treated wastewater from Shotover WWTP in an environmentally friendly, futureproofed, and sustainable way.
Councillors will be asked to determine which solution they wish to proceed with at a Full Council meeting in early 2026.
Following a potential decision, consent for the future (long term) discharge solution would be lodged in May 2026, with construction to be completed by December 2030.
What to expect at the drop in session
We’ll have a range of detailed information available at the session, including:
- The history of Shotover WWTP
- Upgrades made to the facility over time
- How wastewater gets treated
- The different disposal options and how they were assessed
- A refined short list of disposal options
This drop in session is an opportunity to inform the public of the process undertaken to date, the different options we’ve considered and why they have or haven’t been progressed with.
It’s also a chance to ask questions to better understand the long term disposal strategy for Shotover WWTP, and to share any concerns or feedback you may have with staff and Councillors to assist with their future decision-making.
Tea, coffee, water, and some light snacks will be provided.
