- **Event Name**: Dr Catherine Smith Lecture on Te Rā
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 28 Jun, 2026 at 01:00 pm
- **Event Description**: We have a special 60-minute kōrero coming up with Dr Catherine Smith exploring Te Rā, the only surviving early Māori sail, and the remarkable research uncovering its weaving techniques, materials, cultural significance, and voyaging knowledge.

Drawing on a major collaborative research project that brought together Māori weaving practitioners, mātauranga Māori and materials science, Catherine will share insights into how this extraordinary taonga is helping revive knowledge of Māori textile traditions and innovation.

This is a rare opportunity to hear from one of Aotearoa's leading textile researchers.

Our thanks to Gladys Henderson, Kristin O'sullivan Peren and Catherine for organising this kōrero for the community.

All are welcome - no prior knowledge required, just curiosity.
