Our goal is to celebrate multiculturalism by honoring the diversity of the Caribbean as well as the diversity of the borough of Queens including the richness that our friends, families, neighbors and businesses bring to the Rockaways. To assist us in this huge undertaking, we are pleased to be working with the West Indian Day Carnival Association (WIADCA), the organizer of the West Indian Day Carnival in Brooklyn, New York.The Queens Carnival will be a day filled with history, culture and traditions that include a parade featuring costumes, masqueraders, live bands, music, food and activities that will attract thousands of local residents and visitors alike. Our day will begin at the Beach 20th Street Plaza at 9:00am where visitors can listen to music, purchase food and other items as they prepare for the Parade. The Carnival Parade will begin at 11:00 am on Beach 21st Street in the municipal parking lot. Revelers will be able to follow the colorful parade bands to the Beach 17th Street Amphitheater where there will be live performances, entertainment, food and vending, and cultural activities occurring remainder of the day. Included in the festivities will be a “Laugh, Dash and Splash COLOR RUN!. This event is a noncompetitive boardwalk race, with color powder throws along the way. We are hosting this fun run to promote happiness and healthiness by bringing the community together. It is slated to begin at 10AM on the boardwalk entrance at Beach 73rd Street and will conclude by 12 noon.There will be a sand castle building contest on Beach 17th Street from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. where the best of the best will win cash prizes. The contest is open to all ages and skill levels. Participants are asked to bring their own tools, sunscreen and most importantly, creativity. The day will culminate with a huge fireworks display in evening where the night sky will light up with all of the color and sparkle that one would expect to conclude such an amazing day of activities.We invite you to highlight your organization by spending the day giving out your information and promoting the resources you provide. Please arrive by 7 a.m. to set up along the boardwalk starting at Beach 14th Street. Please bring your own table, tent and chairs. The Queens Carnival will be great exposure for your group and would give you the opportunity to reach all ages, races and religions that you might not otherwise be able to reach without having to pay the cost for advertising. It’s a win-win situation, the community learns about you and you get to meet them and assist them. The more people you help the more likely you will be able to apply successfully for grants and other expansion opportunities in the future to help your organization thrive and grow.
