Speakers:  Ben Radford, Green Left correspondent recently returned from Latin America.  Federico Fuentes, editor LINKS online journal socialist renewal, Socialist Alliance National Executive member, Green Left journalist and Latin America solidarity activist based in Gadigal Country/Sydney. The United States President Donald Trump’s military invasion of Venezuela and kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Adela Flores de Maduro indicates a significant threat to Latin America,  global south’s sovereignty and to peace and justice. 

Trump announced that he would seize Venezuelan territory and oil for US corporations.

This latest act of war comes after illegal attacks over the past few months, including the US navy blowing up small boats near the Venezuelan coast and Colombia’s Pacific coast. More than 100 people have been killed this way.

Trump is also threatening to invade Greenland, Iran, Cuba, Colombia and Mexico. 

But Latin America is rising, with mass protests in Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia and other countries across the world against the US and those countries who support the rogue nation’s leaders. 

Australia, through firm military and political ties with the US, is aiding and abetting this neo-colonial assault on Venezuela’s sovereignty.
