# Event Details

- **Event Name**: Twilight on the Tavern Lawn: High and Loathsome
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 14 Jun, 2026 at 06:00 pm
- **Event Description**: High and Loathsome is a band that drifts between song and improvisation, structure and atmosphere, intention and spontaneity. Drawing on decades of experience as musicians, composers, and sound explorers, the quartet creates music that is at once grounded and searching.

The group brings together Michael Roberts (founder of Wooden Dinosaur and leader of The Rear Defrosters), drummer and educator Stefan Amidon, bassist and sound engineer Max Adam, and experimental musician John Levin, a longtime force in Brattleboro’s creative music scene.

High and Loathsome first came together in the summer of 2025 to record songs Roberts wrote while living and traveling in East and North Africa. What began as a straightforward recording session quickly evolved into something more expansive. In the hands of Amidon, Adam, and Levin, the songs opened into moments of minimalism, free improvisation, and richly textured soundscapes before returning to familiar forms.

Inspired equally by the earthy intimacy of Michael Hurley and the exploratory spirit of Miles Davis, High and Loathsome creates music that feels both deeply rooted and endlessly unfolding.

Twilight Music and Next Stage Arts present the 23rd season of Twilight on the Tavern Lawn, a summer concert series featuring folk, world, jazz, zydeco, bluegrass, pop, and Americana music. Concerts take place every other Sunday, beginning May 31 and continuing through August 23, at 6:00 pm on the Putney Tavern lawn in downtown Putney (bring a lawn chair or blanket). In case of rain, performances will move indoors to Next Stage Arts, 15 Kimball Hill. The series is free and open to the public (donations welcome). Food will be available, and the series is made possible thanks to support from Next Stage Arts, the Town of Putney, and many local businesses and organizations.
