Jake Shulman-Ment & Abigale Reisman: Two Strings

Violinists Jake Shulman-Ment and Abigale Reisman are among the most highly regarded klezmer musicians working today. Their collaboration, Two Strings, is a powerful new string band project that unites breathtaking virtuosity, deep grounding in Yiddish and Eastern European musical traditions, and a fearless spirit of improvisation.

With striking authenticity as both instrumentalists and vocalists, Jake and Abigale weave together original compositions, new settings of early 20th-century radical Yiddish poetry, and recently rediscovered works from forgotten manuscripts. Haunting and ecstatic, their music blurs the line between old and new, sounding equally at home beneath a wedding canopy, in a concert hall, or in a raucous tavern. They are joined by longtime collaborators Pete Rushefsky on tsimbl and Raffi Boden on cello.

Ira Temple & Michael Winograd

Ira Temple and Michael Winograd are central figures in New York City’s vibrant klezmer and Yiddish music community. Together, they have performed at concerts, festivals, weddings, and coming-of-age celebrations, and are both recent members of the cast and orchestra of Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club on Broadway.

Accordionist and songwriter Ira Temple is the founder of the radical Yiddish music project Tsibele, longtime director of the Aftselakhis Spectacle Committee Purimshpil, and a former member of New York’s activist street band The Rude Mechanical Orchestra. Their newest solo album, Strange Tongue – Mistame-Loshn, to be released this October on Borscht Beat Records, reimagines traditional Yiddish songs through English-language expansion, blending queer and trans songwriting with the urgent, living breath of Yiddish culture as practiced today in Brooklyn.

Clarinetist Michael Winograd lives in Brooklyn, where his band The Honorable Metnshn has helped bring klezmer and Yiddish music to audiences around the world. He has performed and collaborated with leading figures in Jewish music, including Itzhak Perlman, Frank London, the Klezmatics, and the Klezmer Conservatory Band. Featured on dozens of recordings—from The Beautiful Game to Live at Madison Square Garden with Vulfpeck—Winograd’s music has also appeared in film, television, theater, and dance. His upcoming release, TANZ! Live in New York City, re-creates the iconic 1956 klezmer album TANZ!, originally featuring clarinetists Dave Tarras and Sam Musiker.
