"An Irish Christmas" with John Doyle and Cathie Ryan

An Irish Christmas is a magical evening featuring two of Irish music’s most highly regarded artists as they share songs, stories, and memories of festive Christmas traditions from Ireland—capturing the pure joy of the season.

Longtime friends and collaborators, John and Cathie have toured as a duo throughout Europe (though rarely in the U.S.), are members of the all-star ensemble The Irish Music Masters, and are featured in the PBS special The Soul of Christmas. Their deep love for traditional music continues to evolve through their original songs and collaborations.

Over the past four decades, John Doyle—instrumentalist, composer, producer, and singer-songwriter—has become one of the most versatile and creative voices in folk and traditional Irish music. A founding member of the groundbreaking Irish supergroup Solas, John’s innovative guitar work helped propel the band to international acclaim. With Solas, he performed to sold-out audiences worldwide and appeared on The Today Show, A Prairie Home Companion, Mountain Stage, E-Town, and World Café. The group earned three NAIRD awards and a Grammy nomination. Since launching his solo career, John has recorded two solo albums and collaborated with artists including Joan Baez, Eileen Ivers, Tim O’Brien, Linda Thompson, Seamus Egan, Alison Brown, and Kate Rusby.

For more than thirty-five years, Cathie Ryan has been at the forefront of Irish music. Known for her luminous voice and gift for discovering gems from the Irish and American song traditions, she also crafts originals that fit seamlessly alongside them. A captivating performer, Cathie’s concerts are celebrated for their intimacy, emotional power, and characteristic Irish storytelling. She has toured internationally, performing “songs of the heart” at concert halls, festivals, and with symphony orchestras, and has been featured on national and public television and radio around the world.

As part of Next Stage’s 15th anniversary celebration, two of its founders, Nick Keil and Michael Wells, will be honored at this event.
