Shah Jo Risalo - an hour-long mehfil recounts the seven immortal love stories of Sindh inspired by the "Shah Jo Risalo" - a book written by Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. This performance delves into the tales of Leelan-Chanesar, Noori-Jam Tamachi, Beejal-Ray Diyach, Moomal-Rano, Omar-Marvi, Sassi-Punnu and Sohni-Mahiwal. The narratives are presented in a blend of Hindi and Urdu accompanied by Sindhi compositions and traditional folk songs.
Ashwin 'Afraad'
Ashwin is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of Performing Arts,
History, Languages, Literature, and Philosophy. He began his journey in the performing
arts with his debut film “Shwas” in 2004, for which he won the National Award for Best
Child Artist. His background in performing arts, combined with his passion for the Persian
language, inspired him to create this performance based on the life and works of
Moulana Rumi. After learning Sindhi, Ashwin developed a similar project dedicated to the works of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, titled Shah Jo Risalo. His distinctive approach to philosophy and
language has also paved the way for future projects such as Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam
and Bhushangatha. In addition to performing, Ashwin teaches Farsi at both basic and intermediate levels and conducts heritage walks and trips across India, which enable him to collect and share
stories from the past and present. His work reflects a deep commitment to preserving
and celebrating the richness of history and culture through storytelling and performance.
