Justice For Avni
Avni or T1 was a young tigress living in the forests of Maharashtra, India. She had two ten month old cubs. She was shot dead on November 2 in cold blood. She was accused of having killed humans without any evidence. Humans encroached her forest for illegal grazing of cattle. She never stepped outside her forest. YET she was killed! A private hunter with no license to K*ll shot her down in complete violation of several protocols. Supreme Court orders were completely disregarded, which required that the cubs be secured first, then an attempt to tranquilize her be made. If that fails and she attacks, a shoot to K*ll order be exercised. However, she was shot without securing the cubs and without any attempt to tranquilize in the middle of the night when no one is allowed to enter the forest.
There is more to it. There is immense financial benefit from getting rid of predators like Avni and her cubs, to those involved. Over one thousand hectares of classified forest land has been allotted to corporations like Reliance, MP Birla, Jinbhuvish and Adani, that want to build cement factories and power plants on this land. Millions of dollars are riding on these industries and therefore the push to clear the forest of carnivores that could harm the development.
Bengal Tigers are an Endangered Species on IUCN Red List and are a protected animal. However, every year more and more tigers fall prey to human greed. Tigers like other wildlife are important to the ecosystem that exists in the forests and on our planet. With merely 2265 Bengal Tigers left in the world, they need our utmost protection.
The cubs are still in the forest, hungry and desperate. They are next in line to either be captured or eliminated. Avni's mate T2 is also on the list. The whole family will be wiped out if don't do anything.
We demand that Avni's cubs and T2 be left alone and search operation called off. We demand that Avni's murders and political ministers be tried in court and justice be brought to Avni. We demand that stricter wildlife laws be made and adhered to.
