The event also seeks to celebrate the beauty, history, and uniqueness of Pulau Pinang as a state rich in cultural values and heritage. Pulau Pinang sejak dahulu dikenali dengan gelaran “Pulau Mutiara”, satu nama yang sangat popular sekitar era 1980-an dan sering digunakan oleh masyarakat tempatan pada waktu itu. Namun begitu, dalam kalangan generasi muda masa kini, gelaran ini semakin jarang digunakan apabila merujuk kepada Pulau Pinang. Sehubungan itu, nama “Larian Pulau Mutiara” dipilih sebagai usaha untuk menghidupkan kembali identiti dan nostalgia gelaran tersebut, di samping memperkenalkan semula warisan nama yang pernah sinonim dengan Pulau Pinang kepada generasi baharu.
