Pueblo - Basic Bindings & Beyond
Cost: $ 33.00
Binding not only finishes the edge of the quilt, but also creates a wonderful frame to show off your completed work.
In this class you will learn the benefits of a double fold binding, gain hands on experience with mitered corners and bulk free diagonal seams, learn about continuous bias binding and a faux piped binding for an extra special finishing touch!
***NEW - Cyndi is going to teach Decorative Stitch Binding, also!
Here's what you need to bring:
A small project which you need to bind off
Fabric from which to make binding (see below for determining yardage)
Rotary cutter, mat and 6 X 24 ruler or one close to these measurements
Sewing machine in good working order – remember your power cord and foot pedal!
Thread and two wound bobbins
Pins (basting clips are also a great option)
Hand sewing needle
Determining yardage for your binding
Measure the perimeter of your quilt (all the way around the outside edges) and add 20 inches to the total
Divide the total by 40 and round up to the next whole number
Multiply the total by 2.5 and that is the number of inches of fabric you will need for straight grain continuous binding
Example Quilt top is 80 x 80 so the total all the way around is 320 inches
320 + 20 = 340
340 divided by 40 = 8.5 rounded up is 9
9 x 2.5 = 22.5 inches which is 5/8 of a yard – you may want to purchase 3/4 yard just to be on the safe side
If you wish to learn how to make bias binding, please do the above calculations and add 1/3 yard to the total
You are bound to LOVE this class!
