The self-described punk rockabilly band toured the world for the next 8 years. The Crowns often shared the stage with label mates Social Distortion & Reverend Horton Heat, as well as other artists like The Cramps, X, Tiger Army, Hank III, The Damned, The Specials, Dropkick Murphys, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Supersuckers, Rocket From The Crypt, The Misfits, and many more. Throughout their career, The Crowns released multiple singles, EPs, and 3 full-length albums. They have recorded music on various labels (Sub Pop, Time Bomb, and BMG, to name a few). They’ve won 4 Boston Music Awards, won the WBCN Rumble (the only Providence band to have won since the WBCN Rumble inception in 1979), and have toured the world numerous times. They’ve endured lawsuits, broken bones, accidents, and band fights all in the name of blood, sweat & grease, and they haven’t regretted a second of any of it. About the 2026 Providence Payback This year's Payback will be held at Alchemy in Providence over two nights, October 2nd and 3rd. This enables the Crowns to vary up the set lists each night with some surprises, while keeping the shows tight and energetic. Night # 1 brings the reunion of legendary Providence band Boss Fuel. 32 years in the making, this is a dream for us, as Boss Fuel is the band that influenced the Crowns in the early nineties, and Dennis Kelly (Boss Fuel guitarist) is the 5th Crown, having recorded and toured with us in the past. Making this night even stronger is Lenny Lashley's Gang Of One. Lenny is an institution in New England. Whether appearing as part of a band or as a solo artist, the power of his songwriting connects with audiences from Boston to all corners of the globe. The Crowns have a long history with Lenny and are excited to share a stage again with him. Lenny last appeared at the Providence Payback in 2001 with Darkbuster. Night #2 features the Pilfers straight from NYC. The Crowns have played with the Pilfers many times throughout their career and are looking forward to sharing the stage at this year's Payback with these "Raggacore" ska legends. We’re starting night #2 off strong with The Rins from Boston; their sound combines ska with doo-wop, punk, roots, and reggae. The Crowns had the pleasure of sharing a stage with them last year, and are honored they took time from their touring schedule to play the Payback!
