- **Event Description**: Femmesubstantion is the inaugural exhibit at The Womxn Project Education Fund's new home, the A|R|T Lab. TWPEF is hosting this panel talk, led by moderator  Erin McCutcheon, to go in-depth about process and ideas with artists Abaigeal Wright and Jonathan B. Izzard.

About the exhibit:
“The sacred transformation by which the feminine, so long rendered invisible or secondary, becomes the substance itself. Through art, ritual and reclamation, that which has been treated as subordinate, objectified and at times, vilified; now becomes righteous, powerful and liberated from the confines of our modern world. The radical alchemy of turning silence into presence, objectification into divinity, appropriation into citation and shame into sanctity.”

About the Artists:
Abaigeal Wright works with multiple Rhode Island based non-profit organizations as an artist, activist, and volunteer. She says “I believe in community activism and organizing and making art accessible to everyone.”

Jonathan B. Izzard is an illustrator and “a freelancing visual artist with a toolbelt that has varying skillsets” and says that “working in the arts is a major passion of mine and has been since I stepped foot onto this earth.”

About the Moderator:
Erin L. McCutcheon is an Assistant Professor of Arts of the Americas in the Department of Art and Art History. She earned a Ph.D. in Art History and Latin American Studies and a certificate in Gender and Sexuality Studies from Tulane University. Prior to joining URI in 2022, she directed the Art History program at Lycoming College (2019-2022) where she received the 2021 Junior Faculty Teaching Award. She is currently a mentor for AWARE (Archives of Women Artists, Research, and Exhibitions), an international archive that supports training a new generation of scholars attentive to issues of gender and the position of artists who are women in history.
