Four Ways to Think About Policy in Implementation Science Research

This presentation will explore four ways to think about policy in implementation science research:

• Policy as something to adopt: Understanding how policymaking processes can be modified to increase adoption of evidence-supported policies.
  
• Policy as something to implement: Generating knowledge on optimizing policy rollout or de-implementation to maximize health equity and population health.
  
• Policy as context to understand: Investigating how policies determine implementation outcomes for evidence-supported interventions.
  
• Policy as a strategy to use: Examining how policy strategies affect implementation outcomes related to evidence-supported interventions.

Dr. Purtle’s work bridges mental health policy and implementation science. It focuses on improving policies and how social and political contexts shape policy implementation.
