Clothing Alteration Workshop

In this hands-on Clothing Alterations Workshop, you’ll learn the essential techniques for hemming and taking in garments with clean, professional results.

Each participant should bring one simple garment to work on. For best results, choose something uncomplicated (avoid heavy tailoring, linings, or very delicate fabrics). Ideal projects include:

Hemming pants or skirts

• Shortening a dress
• Taking in side seams
• Simple fit adjustments (for example: jeans waist)

This workshop focuses on building strong foundational skills so you can confidently alter your own clothing in the future.

✔️ How to create symmetrical adjustments on both sides

✔️ How to balance proportions correctly

✔️ How to add and maintain seam allowances

✔️ How to cut fabric accurately

✔️ How to prepare and sew clean, durable seams

We will begin working on your garment during class. Depending on the complexity, you may finish it during the session or complete it at home — but you’ll leave with a clear understanding of the full process and the confidence to repeat it on your own.

Hi there! I’m Julia Medeiros, a seasoned professional in the world of apparel.

With over 20 years of experience under my belt (yes, I started early!) I've honed my skills as a tailor, pattern maker, and sewing technologist. Specializing in women’s clothing, and utilizing my One Fitting method, I’ve brought countless unique garments to life, turning my clients’ visions into reality. I have deep experience with teaching sewing classes around the world I am excited to bring my expertise to The Nest.
