Bialystock and Bloom! Those names should strike terror and hysteria in anyone familiar with Mel Brooks' classic cult comedy film. Now as a musical, "The Producers" once again sets the standard for modern, outrageous, in-your-face humor. With a truly hysterical book co-written by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan (Annie) and music and lyrics by Mr. Brooks, "The Producers" skewers Broadway traditions and takes no prisoners as it proudly proclaims itself an "equal opportunity offender!" The production is led by director Kimberly Starr and Choreographer Maricela Sanchez.
This musical comedy includes six principal roles, numerous featured roles, a showgirl chorus, and a robust ensemble. Character descriptions, vocal ranges, and dance requirements are outlined below for reference.
Individuals auditioning for principal roles (Max Bialystock, Leopold Bloom, Franz Liebkind, Roger DeBris, Carmen Ghia, Ulla) are required to prepare a song from The Producers specific to their character for auditions scheduled on Sunday, February 15th. Candidates interested in featured roles, ensemble positions, or showgirl dance roles should prepare 64 bars of a selected song from The Producers for auditions taking place on Monday, February 16th.
Auditions will consist of performing prepared songs, cold readings from the script, and learning and performing choreography. All audition participants should wear attire suitable for movement. Theatre doors will open at 6:00 PM for paperwork completion, with auditions commencing promptly at 6:30 PM.
A full readthrough is scheduled for Monday, February 23rd. Regular rehearsals will be conducted Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Dedicated dance rehearsals will take place on weekends, coordinated with the production team. Participants should anticipate additional Thursday rehearsals and later evening sessions during the final two weeks leading to performances.
Performance dates are May 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, and 17.
