Registration Guidelines:
Please limit registrations to 3 individuals per district.
Each participant must be registered individually in order to receive a certificate after the training.
Priority registration is given to Region 10 and Region 11 districts.
About Operation STEER 2026 – Prosper, Texas
Operation STEER is a hands-on, scenario-based training event designed to strengthen safety practices for school bus transportation personnel across Texas. As part of our statewide safety initiative, this program delivers realistic, high-impact training that prepares staff to respond confidently and effectively during emergency situations.
The success of Operation STEER depends on the collaboration of our emergency response partners. For 2026, we are coordinating multi-agency participation, including:
Local fire departments
EMS personnel
Law enforcement agencies
Emergency Services Districts (ESDs)
Regional Advisory Councils
Local media partners
Their involvement enhances the realism and instructional value of each activity and helps transportation teams understand how to work smoothly alongside first responders.
📚 Key Training Scenarios
Participants will rotate through hands-on stations led by trainers and emergency responders. Scenarios will include:
Smoke-filled bus evacuations
Railroad crossing incidents and rollover awareness
Special needs student evacuations and securement
Live fire extinguisher training (PASS method)
Basic first aid and triage practice
Stabilization and extrication demonstrations
How to manage and support student behavior during emergency situation and more.....
These interactive activities are designed to build confidence, reinforce safety protocols, and strengthen coordination between transportation personnel and local emergency agencies.
