- **Event Description**: Travel by Mass Audubon van to the mouth of the Merrimack River to search for coastal birds typically seen only in winter. We'll start at Salisbury Beach State Reservation to search for Crossbills, Snow Buntings, Horned Larks, and birds of prey in the camping area and adjacent salt marsh, and winter sea ducks, loons and grebes on the Reservation's ocean side. A stop in Newburyport along the riverbanks may produce Common Goldeneye, Red-breasted Merganser, Long-tailed Duck, and Bald Eagle. The Parker River National Wildlife Refuge on Plum Island provides another chance to scan the ocean for bird activity, and while traveling the Refuge road, we'll scan the skies for Bald Eagles and Rough-legged Hawks and the salt marsh for Snowy Owls.
