Open to everyone upon registration.Synopsis: In 1863, in an Acadian community, Julitte redirects her frustrated maternal instinct toward Jérôme, a mysterious shipwreck survivor—mute and missing both legs—taken in by her Corsican husband, Jean Nicolas. This stirs Jean’s jealousy and brings to the surface the latent conflict within the childless couple. Jean embarks on an affair with Molïdje, a Mi’kmaq woman and the companion of his friend Cyrille Marquis, an itinerant healer from Lower Canada. When Jean learns that he himself is responsible for the couple’s infertility, he makes peace with Julitte. However, the community’s prejudices and social pressures confront them with the urgency of having a child, at the risk of being cast out. Without consulting Julitte, Jean asks his friend Cyrille to act in his place.
