Eclectic - The many faces of Gordon Froud
Eclectic—the many faces of Gordon Froud aptly opens on World Art Day. This renowned artist works in a multi-modal way experimenting with a broad range of materials and approaches in art making, from abstraction to realism and even a little bit of social commentary.
This exhibition embraces Gordon Froud’s eclectic style and nature. “Humour frequently appears as a player in my work particularly in the titling of works. Sacred geometry, viruses, abstract steel works, self-portraits and figures are all part of this show.”
Gordon Froud has been actively involved in the South African and international art world as an artist, educator, curator and gallerist for more than 30 years. He has curated numerous group exhibitions that have traveled the country and shows on more than 20 exhibitions a year in South Africa and abroad. He was selected as the first ‘Site-Specific artist in Residence’ at Plettenberg Bay for 2012 and as a participating artist in the ‘Site–Specific Land Art Biennale’ in 2013.
A solo exhibition of more than 150 new works entitled ‘Harmonia: Sacred Geometry - Pattern of existence’ was showcased at the Standard Bank gallery from April to June 2018 and traveled to various major galleries and museums across South Africa during 2018 and 2019.
The exhibition will be opened by Dr Avi Sooful, National President of SANAVA (South African National Association of the Visual Arts) at 18h30 on Thursday 15 April 2021 and closes on Saturday 8 May 2021.
