- **Event Description**: Photonica brings a free six- day celebration of astronomy, astrophotography and art from amateur astronomers from Scotland and beyond!About this EventPhotonica brings a free six- day celebration of astronomy, astrophotography and art to the Cutty-Sark Centre in Ayr. Photonica, a first for Scotland and Ayrshire is or families, astrophotographers, photographers, artists, space fans, schools and anyone who has ever looked up at the night sky and quietly pondered “What is really out there?”.If you have, then this event is definitely for you. You do not need to be an expert in astronomy. Curiosity sits at the cornetsone of the hobby! Astronomy can sometimes feel a little like it’s locked away behind expensive equipment, complicated language and people who seem to know every object in the night sky, but Photonica is built to scratch that itch a little more. It’s space without the gatekeeping. It’s astronomy without that lecture hall feeling. It’s astrophotography without needing to know what a narrowband filter is before you’re allowed to enjoy the image. Across the six days, visitors will be able to explore large-scale deep-sky imagery, talks, workshops and visual showing nebulae, galaxies, the Moon, the Sun and the incredible structures sitting far beyond our own little corner of the universe, like you have never seen before; far beyond what our eyes actually see! Some of the images on display show objects thousands, even millions of light-years away. That means the light captured in those photographs left its home long before any of us were around to see it. Before towns, roads, phones and coffee shops! In most cases, even before modern Scotland ever existed. That’s the pull of astrophotography. It’s not just pictures. It’s anceint photons that have travelled thousands of years to reach our eyes. Photonica also brings an exciting line-up of speakers and contributors to Ayrshire, including some remarkable voices from across astronomy, space science, space art and astrophotography.Among them is Professor Catherine Heymans, Astronomer Royal for Scotland, whose work explores some of the biggest questions in modern cosmology, including dark matter, dark energy and the structure of the universe. These are not small subjects. Those are the kind of questions that sit right at the edge of what we know and what we are still trying to understand. Lou Mayo, a NASA planetary scientist coming all the way over from the US of A, is bringing a direct connection to the kind of space science many of us grew up watching from afar. NASA can often feel like detached a little and a bit out of reach, in another country or on a screen but Photonica helps bring that world to Ayrshire in a way that feels human, accessible and close enough to ask questions. The creative side of astronomy will be represented too. Cathrin Machin, one of the most recognisable space artists working today, brings a different kind of cosmic language to the event. Where science gives us data, art helps us feel the emotion of it. Her work reminds us that space is not only something to study. It is something to respond to, interpret and be emotionally charged by. Visitors will also encounter work connected to Rod Prazeres, the incredible Australian astrophotographer, whose imagery has links to the recently released Project Hail Mary film, alongside Andrew McCarthy, known globally for his astonishing solar and lunar images. His work has a way of making the Moon feel less like a faraway ball in the sky and more like a real world, hanging above us in plain sight.Photonica also showcases a host of Ayrshire’s amateur astronomers and astrophotographers from Scotland and across the globe! For schools, Photonica offers a brilliant route into STEM without making it feel like homework. Space is one of those subjects that naturally pulls children in. Rockets, planets, black holes, stars, astronauts, galaxies, it has all the good stuff. But behind the spectacle are physics, engineering, photography, computing, design, maths, storytelling and environmental awareness and more. That is what makes an event like this so valuable. It does not just say astronomy is important. It shows why astronomy is exciting. For adults, it is a chance to reconnect with something we sometimes forget we are allowed to be amazed by. You can come along because you love astronomy. You can come because your child is obsessed with planets. You can come because you enjoy photography, art, technology or local events. You can come because it is free, it is in Ayr, and a six-day space exhibition does not land on your doorstep every week. Photonica is not trying to make everyone an astronomer. It is trying to make the universe feel a little less distant. So bring the kids. Bring a friend. Bring the person who says they are “not really into space” and see how long that lasts. The universe has been above Ayrshire all along. Photonica is simply giving you a reason to look up.Dates: 15th–20th September, 10.30am - 5.30pmVenue: Cutty Sark Building, AyrEntry: FREEFor the full itinerary and individual speaker times please visit the web site www.photonica.co.uk https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events9/banners/0c70ace0-a74c-11f1-b98f-cbeba3585b3a-rimg-w750-h740-dc382838-gmir.jpg Agenda🕑: 10:30 AM - 05:30 PMExhibition of images of deep spaceHost: Tom McCrorieInfo: Throughout the day there will be an exhibition of printed images from amateur astronomers from Ayrshire, Scotland and beyond highlighting that space isn’t only rockets and satellites!
