This performance features period music, photographs and cartoons as Grant reviews his life as he struggles to complete his memoirs just days before his death at the age of 63. This program is an informative, humorous and touching portrayal of the victorious General whose strategy and tenacity won the Civil War, the President who struggled to rebuild his nation after the war and the husband and father whose final efforts were devoted to the financial support of his wife and family.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Prairie City Public Library, Humanities Iowa (a private nonprofit), and the State Historical Society, Inc. of Iowa.

The Friends of the Prairie City Public Library has received funding from Humanities Iowa, a private nonprofit, to host a presentation called Unconditional Surrender:  A Visit with Ulysses S Grant by Pete Grady at 6 pm Tuesday 4/14 at the Prairie City Public Library. A cultural resource for Iowans since 1971, Humanities Iowa offers many cultural and historical programs and grants to Iowa's communities.
