Skupina Zu vznikla v Ostii západně od Říma roku 1997 a je pověstná širokou syntézou avantgardních žánrů. Zatímco jejich sestava je typická pro jazzovou kapelu, za tvrdý zvuk vděčí punk rocku a jejich tvorba vzdoruje snadné kategorizaci. V této souvislosti je zmiňován noise, math rock, industrial, avantgarda, drone i ambient. Díku svému zaměření našla desítky spřízněných muzikantů v kapelách jako Einsturzende Neubauten, Sonic Youth, Can, The Stooges, The Ex, či sólistů jako Mike Patton, Ken Vandermark nebo Mats Gustafsson, s nimiž během posledních dvou dekád spolupracovala. Posledním pokračováním této mozaiky je italsko-japonská sestava RuinsZu s Tatsuyou Yoshidou, jejíž koncert jsme pořádali v květnu 2024 v rámci přehlídky Other Music. Tentokrát se Zu vrací v tradiční sestavě coby power trio a v Praze představí své nové album, které vychází 9.1. 2026.

The legend of noise avant-garde returns to Prague with a new album!

The band Zu was formed in Ostia, west of Rome, in 1997 and is renowned for its broad synthesis of avant-garde genres. While their lineup is typical for a jazz band, they owe their hard sound to punk rock, and their work defies easy categorization. In this context, noise, math rock, industrial, avant-garde, drone, and ambient are mentioned. Thanks to their focus, they have found dozens of like-minded musicians in bands such as Einsturzende Neubauten, Sonic Youth, Can, The Stooges, The Ex, and soloists such as Mike Patton, Ken Vandermark, and Mats Gustafsson, with whom they have collaborated over the past two decades. The latest addition to this mosaic is the Italian-Japanese ensemble RuinsZu with Tatsuya Yoshida, whose concert we organized in May 2024. This time, Zu returns to Prague in its traditional lineup as a power trio and will present its new album, which will be released on January 9, 2026.
