Americká formace Fugazi vznikla ve Washingtonu v roce 1986 a svou hudbou zásadně ovlivnila vývoj nezávislé punkové a hardcorové scény. Od jejich posledního živého vystoupení uběhlo více než dvacet let a právě k tomuto „výročí” se volně vztahuje premiéra filmu poskládaného z archivních záběrů nazvaného We Are Fugazi From Washington, D.C. Právě touhle větou kapela zahajovala své koncerty. 

Úvodní film letního kina vybral za hudební sekci MeetFactory dramaturg Václav Havelka.

„Fugazi pro mě představují nejen hudební inspiraci, ale i životní tvůrčí oporu. Spolu s několika dalšími výjimečnými umělci formovali můj pohled na to, co znamená autenticita a skutečná nezávislost v hudbě. Díky vystoupení Brendana Cantyho, bubeníka Fugazi, s projektem The Messthetics minulý rok v MeetFactory, se nám podařilo získat českou premiéru tohoto výjimečného filmu. Snímek přesně vystihuje podstatu hudby jako hlubokého propojení mezi tvůrci a jejich publikem – bez póz, bez hranic, naplno a opravdově.”

Před projekcí filmu proběhne online rozhovor s členy kapely - zpěvákem a kytaristou Ian McKay a bubeníkem Brendan Canty. Úvod bude moderovat Milan Trachta aka Banán: 

„Kdysi jsem četl recenzi na poslední album Fugazi, která končila slovy: ,Neexistuje jiná kapela jako Fugazi, poslouchání jejich hudby, z vás udělá lepšího člověka. Vím, zní to trochu pateticky, ale je to naprostá pravda. Zřejmě žádné kapele se nepovedlo dosáhnout tak kultovního statusu, bez toho, aby udělala jakýkoliv kompromis.”

Czech premiere of a documentary collage about the cult post-hardcore band Fugazi, introduced by a live online interview with members Ian MacKaye and Brendan Canty ★

Created to commemorate the 20 years that have passed since DC-based post-hardcore band Fugazi’s last live appearance (November 4, 2002, at The Forum in London), We Are Fugazi from Washington, D.C. is a 96-minute movie comprising crowd sourced, fan recorded live shows and rare archive footage of Fugazi curated by Joe Gross, Joseph Pattisall and Jeff Krulik.

The film pays tribute to Fugazi’s prowess as a live act — for old fans to remember and for a new generation to discover what they missed. This unique archival assemblage celebrates the fans and their cameras, as much as the band itself — a collision/ collusion of the ephemeral moment on stage, and the moments captured on camera.

The film was selected by Václav Havelka, curator of the MeetFactory music programme.

“I once read a review of Fugazi’s final album that ended with the words: ‘There’s no other band like Fugazi. Listening to their music makes you a better person. I know that sounds a bit sentimental, but it’s absolutely true. Probably no other band has ever reached such a cult status without making a single compromise’,” says Milan Trachta aka Banán who will be hosting the event.

Before the screening, a live online interview with vocalist and guitarist Ian MacKaye and drummer Brendan Canty will be held. Admission is free, but in keeping with the filmmakers’ wishes, attendees are welcome to make a voluntary donation to the organization Kuchařky bez domova (Homeless Cooks).
