Special Session on Search for Similar and Outlier Cases - Medical Applications - MEDSIMOC 2019

22 - 24 February, 2019 - Prague, Czech Republic

Within the 12th International Joint Conference on Biomedical Engineering Systems and Technologies - BIOSTEC 2019

The special session MEDSIMOC is dedicated to broadly understood issues of search for similar cases (objects) and outlier detection in large data sets, including big data. There are no limits for the kind of data: numeric, textual, mixed, or images.Similar cases and detection of outliers are the basis for decision-making processes, classification, diagnosis, treatment decisions, grouping, etc. The problems encompasses a wide spectrum of existing methods, and an innovative use of them, as well as innovative approaches are welcome. MEDSIMOC session is an opportunity to identify new research directions and presentation of original research results. It is also an opportunity for exchanging and diffusing innovative and practical experience in this field.

The scope of MEDSIMOC 2019 includes, but is not limited to the following issues:• Probabilistic and statistical models for identification of similar and outlier cases• Features selection for data mining and machine learning• Similar cases in data mining methods and outlier mining methods• Similar cases and outlier detection based on distance, density, depth, deviation etc.• Similar cases and outlier detection in categorical, text, mixed attribute data, stream data, image and image sequences• Identification similar cases and outlier detection in big data• Evolutionary algorithms for similar cases and outlier detection• Multi-label and fuzzy classification• Intelligent strategies, and fusion of methods• Visualization• Applications in biomedicine and healthcare

CO-CHAIRS Agnieszka DurajLodz University of TechnologyPoland Brief BioAgnieszka Duraj received her MSc in IT from the Faculty of Technical Physics, Information Technology and Applied Mathematics of Lodz University of Technology in 1998, and her PhD, also in IT, from the Faculty of Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Bioengineering of the University of Zielona Góra, Poland, in 2007. In the years 1998-2007 she was working as assistant and since 2008 – as assistant professor in the Institute of Information Technology of this university. She is a member of the Polish Cybernetic Society, Polish Medical Association of Medical Informatics, and Polish Society of Applied Electromagnetics. She is Session Organizer for the 2017 IEEE International Conference on Innovations in Intelligent Systems and Applications. She is working in the field of data analysis, data mining, outlier detection and mining, pattern recognition, and computational intelligence. The fields of application are: electrical engineering and medicine. Mrs. Duraj is an author and co-author of 40 scientific journal papers and conference contributions. She was awarded by Rector of the Lodz University of Technology.

Piotr SzczepaniakLodz University of TechnologyPoland Brief BioPiotr S. Szczepaniak received the MSc degree in automatic control from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Lodz University of Technology, Poland, in 1977, and the PhD in automatic control and DSc in computer science both from the Technical University of Dresden, Germany, in 1982, and 1990, respectively. In 2005, he obtained the full professor title from the President of Poland. In the years 1996-2003 he was and since 2012 he is Head of the Institute of Information Technology of the Lodz University of Technology. Between 2005 and 2008 he was Dean of the Faculty of Technical Physics, Information Technology and Applied Mathematics. Since 2008 till 2012, he has been the Vice-rector for University Development and Business Affairs and since 2012 is a Vice-rector for University Development. In the years 1999-2008, he was a member of Systems Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He is the organizer and he was the first President of the ICT Cluster of Central Poland. He is a member of the Polish Cybernetic Society, Polish Neural Networks Society, IEEE Signal Processing Society and the Senior Member of the IEEE Computer Society. His research experience covers optimal control theory, sensitivity analysis, and approximation of dynamic time-delay systems. At present, he is working in the field of computational intelligence and its applications to image analysis, pattern recognition, knowledge extraction and development of medical systems.
