(Performative Impro Encounters). This time with the great improviser Nica Portavia. Description: Besides our monthly Instant Composition evenings in Punctum, we want to encourage everyone to dive in the world of performing improvisation. Feel welcomed to this series of workshops led by inspiring international improvisers. ? "This intensive will be a detailed journey, researching together the body as a place where we are been living since we born, informed by reality, imagination, forces, culture, beliefs, dreams. We will approach the material as no end research no end transmission no end practice no end study of us and the relations that we create with everything. Relations that we choose to engage with, relations that are around us and we are finding ourselves in, relations that happens. We are, because we are relations and this is affecting the way we move and the way we think. We will focus on some principles of Material for the Spine ( MFS, Steve Paxton), studying our skeleton , the relations between parts that can allow movements and dance. Dancing from internal and small perturbations and growing smaller or bigger. We will research the principles of CI in their technical, philosophical, social and political aspects. We dance the dance of any now, are we aware of the present we are dancing in? We will practice readiness, availability for changes, possibilities to re-direct, transformation and disorientation as a way to multiply horizons. We will investigate the word improvisation, exploring which tools we need to improvise when this is happening in the real now? we will approach some elements from the Tuning Score ( Lisa Nelson) creating a performative space. Where contact improvisation, improvisation and performance are becoming an interconnected research." ⭐____ ABOUT NICA ______ "I was born in Fano, Italy, from an Italian father and a mother from Lebanon. I start dancing as a child, following a Professional Dance School program before in Italy and then in Spain, Barcelona. I am a dancer, teacher and researcher, performer in the field of Contact Improvisation. I discovered CI many years ago, after having followed a first training in contemporary dance, and I fell in love since the first moment. I mainly trained abroad with many teachers including Steve Paxton, Daniel Lepkoff, Charlie Morrissey,Angelika Doney, Asaf Bacharach, KJ Holmes, Anya Cloud, Karen Nelson. I followed a training on Material for the Spine, by Steve Paxton, where I had the big pleasure to meet and study with Steve, diving completely in his research. I followed a 3 years training called Tatto Interno ( Deep Touch) that is about the relation between fascia and the nervous system I'm co-teaching with Karen Nelson our project called 'Faking it with gravity' and we are performing togheter our research-work called 'Smaller' that is traveling around the world. I have taught and teach in France, Ukraine, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Russia, Poland, Germany, Lituania, Portugal. I am organizer of national and international events, including the Italycontactfest (International CI Festival which takes place in Italy and has now reached its eleventh edition www.italycontactfest.com) and of Being Touch Festival (www.beingtouch.org) I was in the organization team of Ecite 2022 Portugal,of Ecite 2024.
