Neil Cowley Trio rozhodně není typickým jazzovým triem. Oslňující britský skladatel a klavírista se svými spoluhráči vytváří hluboce podmanivou a strhující hudbu, která je zároveň poetická a křehká, velkolepá a vznešená i nespoutaná a divoká. Odkazuje na Clauda Debussyho a Steva Reicha, stejně jako na Spiritualized a Arcade Fire, a je silná natolik, že zcela bourá běžné vnímání žánru. Trio známé pro svá jedinečná živá vystoupení, která nepostrádají rozvernost ani britský smysl pro humor, na svých turné projelo celý svět a objevilo se na nejuznávanějších jazzových festivalech (u nás naposledy v roce 2025 v Paláci Akropolis v rámci koncertní série Respect Plus).

Hned první deska Displaced vyhrála v roce 2007 cenu BBC Jazz Award za nejlepší album. O pět let později s deskou The Face of Mount Molehill získali cenu Jazz FM Award za nejlepší britský jazzový počin roku. Koncepční album Spacebound Apes (2016) sklidilo nadšené recenze napříč prestižními médii. V roce 2024 vydalo Neil Cowley Trio album Entity v obnovené původní sestavě, se kterou se představí i v Praze.

A fusion of jazz, contemporary artificial music, and ambient electronica

The Neil Cowley Trio is definitely not a typical jazz trio. The dazzling British composer and pianist and his bandmates create deeply compelling and haunting music that is at once poetic and fragile, grand and sublime, and unbridled and wild. Referencing Claude Debussy and Steve Reich, as well as Spiritualized and Arcade Fire, it is powerful enough to completely subvert conventional perceptions of the genre. The trio, known for their unique live performances that are not lacking in debauchery or British sense of humour, have toured the world and appeared at the most respected jazz festivals (in 2025 at the Palace Akropolis as part of the Respect Plus concert series).

The very first album Displaced won the BBC Jazz Award for Best Album in 2007. Five years later, The Face of Mount Molehill won the Jazz FM Award for Best British Jazz Record of the Year. The concept album Spacebound Apes (2016) garnered rave reviews across prestigious media. In 2024, the Neil Cowley Trio released the album Entity with its original lineup, which will also perform in Prague.
