Monk’s Casino je jedinečný koncertní projekt, který se s odvahou a hravou disciplínou pouští do kompletního díla jazzového génia Thelonia Monka. Spolupráce legendárního pianisty Alexander von Schlippenbach a kapely Die Enttäuschung (Rudi Mahall, Axel Dörner, Jan Roder, Kasper Tom) přináší Monkovu hudbu v podobě, jakou jinde neuslyšíte – syrovou, koncentrovanou a přizpůsobenou živému provedení během jednoho večera.

Nejde o encyklopedickou rekonstrukci, ale o živý, dynamický tvar, v němž jsou Monkovy kompozice znovu uspořádány, místy radikálně zestručněny, jinde rozvinuty. Tempo je často zběsilé, atmosféra může být bouřlivá – přesto má vše pevnou strukturu a jasný směr. Improvizace ustupuje samotným skladbám, které zde stojí v centru pozornosti.

Monk’s Casino je intenzivní hudební zážitek, který osloví znalce jazzu i posluchače hledající výjimečný koncertní večer. Hudba Thelonia Monka zde nezní jako muzeální exponát, ale jako živý organismus – nevyzpytatelný, vtipný, drsný i elegantní zároveň.

The complete works of Thelonious Monk

Monk’s Casino is a unique concert project that boldly and playfully tackles the complete works of jazz genius Thelonious Monk. The collaboration between legendary pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach and the band Die Enttäuschung (Rudi Mahall, Axel Dörner, Jan Roder, Kasper Tom) presents Monk’s music in a form you won’t hear anywhere else – raw, concentrated, and shaped specifically for live performance over the course of a single evening.

This is not an encyclopedic reconstruction, but a living, dynamic form in which Monk’s compositions are newly arranged, at times radically condensed, elsewhere expanded. The pace is often frenetic, the atmosphere can be turbulent – yet everything has a firm structure and a clear direction. Improvisation gives way to the compositions themselves, which stand at the very center of attention.
