Rutina sbírání mosazných zbytků se stává jakousi úlevou pro roztříštěnou a rozdělenou společnost, poetickým vyprávěním o sblížení lidí, jak to odráží tato mechanická činnost – částice, které umožňují otevírání dveří po celém městě. Drobné sochařské částice mosazi se při dostatečně blízkém pohledu proměňují v nebeská tělesa, složité šperky či nadpozemskou architekturu. The Brass Section tak zve diváka k přehodnocení současných možností společného soužití – k hledání prostoru pro tiché hlasy, budování nových vazeb a oslavě rozmanitosti. Prostřednictvím materiálu, který by jinak zůstal nepovšimnut, autorka ukazuje, že i ty nejmenší fragmenty mohou nést potenciál společenské proměny. Ioana Gheorghiu je rumunská vizuální umělkyně, která ve své tvorbě využívá text a prostředky výtvarného umění k práci na pomezí jazyka, zvuku a těla. Její umělecká praxe vychází z konceptuálního, pomalého a rhizomatického přístupu, který propojuje spekulativní praxi s dlouhodobými procesy, experimentem a dokumentací. With The Brass Section, Ioana builds on her previous artistic practice, in which she has long explored material-based research. In this project, she further develops this inquiry through new material experiments rooted in the local context. Focusing on the brass dust produced during key cutting, she investigates its potential to become a catalyst for broader discussions on connection, care, and social relationships. The routine of collecting brass residue becomes a form of relief for a fragmented and divided society - a poetic narrative about bringing people closer together, reflected in the very mechanical process that produces the particles enabling doors to be unlocked throughout the city. When observed up close, these tiny sculptural fragments of brass transform into celestial bodies, intricate jewellery, or otherworldly architectures. The Brass Section invites viewers to rethink contemporary possibilities for living together by creating space for quiet voices, fostering new connections, and celebrating diversity. Through a material that would otherwise go unnoticed, the artist demonstrates how even the smallest fragments can hold the potential for social transformation. Ioana Gheorghiu is a Romanian visual artist whose practice uses text and visual art forms to explore the intersections of language, sound, and the body. Her artistic practice is rooted in a conceptual, slow, and rhizomatic approach that connects speculative methods with long-term processes, experimentation, and documentation. She has been involved in platforms dedicated to performative research and has participated in international performance-focused programmes, including Abandoned Practices in Prague, organised by the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and danceWEB Vienna, part of the ImPulsTanz – Vienna International Dance Festival.
