Becoming an Octopus looks into imaginaries of water and fluidity. This year during the Summer School we will conduct a twofold exploration. Within the first part of the program, we will understand water not as a resource or capital, but as a vessel, site or environment for rest, story-telling, joy, curiosity and life. In the second part of the program, we look at fluidity as both a survival tactic and act of resistance within a rigid world. 

Within the program we create space for experimental approaches that weave together multiple perspectives, ranging from art to philosophy, spirituality, post-capitalist theory, ecology, gender studies, and posthumanism. Through both online and offline lectures, artist talks, screenings, performances, hands-on workshops and field research, participants will immerse themselves into collective and embodied learning. 

This Summer School provides an interdisciplinary platform that connects artists, scholars, curators and other practitioners to collectively explore new ways of perceiving and understanding fluid forms of being through contemporary art.

The Summer School is organized and curated by Julia Fidder and Tea Kříž. It will run between 10th and 11th July, 2026 at Pragovka Gallery. The participation is free of charge, however participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs and food.  

Application deadline: 5 June, 2026, 11:59 pm.

We will notify the accepted participants by the middle of June.

Around 10–15 participants will be selected by the two curators and members of Pragovka Gallery.

Becoming an Octopus se zaměřuje na imaginace vody a fluidity. V rámci letošní Summer School se budeme věnovat dvojí perspektivě. V první části programu budeme vodu chápat nikoli jako zdroj či kapitál, ale jako médium, místo či prostředí pro odpočinek, vyprávění příběhů, radost, zvídavost a život. Ve druhé části programu se zaměříme na fluiditu jako na strategii přežití i akt odporu v rigidním světě.

Program vytváří prostor pro experimentální přístupy, které propojují různé perspektivy – od umění přes filozofii, spiritualitu, postkapitalistickou teorii, ekologii, genderová studia až po posthumanismus. Prostřednictvím online i offline přednášek, artist talks, projekcí, performancí, praktických workshopů a terénního výzkumu se účastnictvo zapojí do kolektivního a tělesně zakotveného učení.

Tato Summer School nabízí interdisciplinární platformu, která propojuje umělce a umělkyně, badatele a badatelky, kurátory a kurátorky i další profesionály k společnému hledání nových způsobů vnímání a porozumění fluidním formám bytí prostřednictvím současného umění.

Summer School organizují a kurátorují Julia Fidder a Tea Kříž. Proběhne ve dnech 10.–11. července 2026 v Pragovka Gallery. Účast na Summer School je zdarma. Účastníci a účastnice si hradí vlastní náklady na dopravu, ubytování a stravu. 

Uzávěrka přihlášek: 5. června 2026 ve 23:59.

Vybrané účastníky a účastnice budeme kontaktovat v polovině června.

Vybráno bude přibližně 10–15 účastníků a účastnic kurátorkami a týmem Pragovka Gallery.
