Backend Meetup PRG: DevOps
STRV is kicking the event year off with DevOps meetup! Learn how to use Docker, how Terraform helps in the DevOps world and what are Fargate's benefits over other platforms'! On February 21st, three of our backend developers will present chosen DevOps topics.
The presenations will be led by:
Adam Vresky: Introduction to Docker & Kubertenes
Robert Rossmann: Authoring Terraform configuration in any language you want
Juan Sanchez: Provisioning a AWS Fargate fleet using Terraform
Session 1: Introduction to Docker & Kubertenes
We'll kick off our DevOps event by summing up all benefits of using containers, take a look at how Docker can be used and introduce Kubertenes while working together with Docker.
Session 2: Authoring Terraform configuration in any language you want
We will start by explaining what Terraform is, how it helps in the DevOps world and then we'll show how to author Terraform configuration in any language you feel comfortable with.
Terraform ships with its own language for defining your infrastructure called Hashicorp Configuration Language, however it is rather static. Sometimes you wish you could do something more interesting when writing the configuration, like loops, dynamic calculations etc. and HCL does not work that well in this scenario as a regular programming language could.
Session 3: Provisioning a AWS Fargate fleet using Terraform
During this talk, we’ll introduce AWS Fargate PaaS and its benefits over other platforms (e.g. Heroku) and will discuss reusing most important configurations using Terraform.
