'76ers...save the date!
The 50th reunion of the Poughkeepsie High School Class of 1976 will take place on Saturday evening, October 24th, 2026 at The Academy, 33 Academy Street, in downtown Poughkeepsie.
The date selected reflects the preference of the majority of the (very few) class members with whom we've been in touch, as expressed in votes cast via our class Gmail account.
We know this date may not work for all of our classmates, but clearly there was concern about scheduling a reunion too close to Thanksgiving (and the risk of bad winter weather) the deeper into November we went.
No part of our planning will be able to please everyone...so all we can do is our best to accommodate the majority of prospective attendees.
We're in the process of securing a DJ for the evening's musical entertainment, featuring the songs that were the soundtrack of our lives between 1968 and 1980. And much more is in store.
We are also in the process of working with the PHS Class of 1975 to merge their still-undisbursed class gift to PHS with ours, making a more meaningful contribution to the future of our alma mater.
But now...the real work begins.
There are contracts to be let, and deposits to be made...which means as soon as is practically possible, we'll be sending an "e-vite" to solicit your RSVP.
And in order to do that...we need everyone's help in reaching out to '76ers with whom you may be in touch to inform them of the reunion and ask for their participation.
I am preparing a database of all 270 June graduates in our class. And our outreach committee (still in formation) will then scour social media and "friends of friends of friends" -- along with other records that are publicly available -- to find as many of our classmates as we can.
Please direct your fellow '76ers to this Facebook group so that we can fill in the blanks of our contact database and keep everyone informed on reunion plans.
But all work and no play makes the Class of '76 pretty dull. So along the way these next few months, we'll have some fun with 76er Trivia...to get everyone in a reunion frame of mind!
A GENTLE REMINDER (since Facebook group memberships are occasionally hacked): ONLY members of the PHS Class of 1976 - and their spouses or partners -- will be admitted to this event, along with Poughkeepsie City School District faculty and support staff working in the district between 1972-76. Our intent is to provide an embracing space for shared memories and experiences -- and to reconnect with dear friends. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.
