- **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 11 Oct, 2026 at 11:30 am – Sun, 11 Oct, 2026 at 12:30 pm (-04:00)
- **Event Description**: Richard and Melissa Kurtz frequently visit the Mid-Hudson Discovery Museum with their grandchildren and are excited to share their lifelong passion for honey bees as both beekeepers and educators.

This interactive program gives children and families an up-close encounter with live honey bees in a safe observation hive. Discover how thousands of bees work together as a colony and learn about the important role honey bees and other pollinators play in our environment. Participants also have an opportunity to handle beekeeping equipment, learn how beekeepers care for their colonies, and explore the many useful products that come from a healthy hive including honey, beeswax, propolis, and pollen.

Most importantly, this program encourages children to appreciate the amazing lives of honey bees and understand why bees and other pollinators are so important to the world around us.

Included with museum admission.

Richard and Melissa Kurtz have been beekeepers for more than 40 years and have shared their love of honeybees through educational programs for people of all ages. Both are retired public-school science teachers and lifelong educators. Their passion is helping others discover the amazing life of honey bees from the remarkable way bees live and work together to the important role they play as pollinators in our environment. Richard and Melissa especially enjoy introducing children and families to the fascinating world inside a honey bee colony and showing how these tiny insects help support plants, animals, and people.
