It's an evening of minimalist music, inspired by the depth and silence of the long north country winter nights, nights where each sound demands your attention.

Join us, February, Friday the 13th, the Eve of Valentine’s Day, for an evening of music for lovers and the superstitious alike, as An Artifact of Place ushers “ROUST Records Presents . . . Avant Garde at Potsdam Public Library” into a new direction of music and performance, returning focus to experimental and improvised music, and spotlighting individual artists/bands/ensembles, in an evening of exploration and musical discovery.

Doors at 6pm/music at 6:30.$10 door, no one turned away for lack of funds. All ages all the time. Non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.

About An Artifact of Place:

Casey Grev is a dedicated performer of contemporary music. In addition to his work within the Potsdam Improvising community and as a chamber musician, he performs regularly with the Viridian Saxophone Quartet and the Protean Duo.

Jerod Sommerfeldt is an electronic musician focusing on improvisation, collaboration, and is one of the earliest ROUST collaborators.

Both Casey and Jerod teach at the Crane School of Music, Potsdam, NY.

William Eckert is a multi-instrumentalist, improvisor, writer, composer and founder of ROUST Records, with a focus on promoting his musical collaborators and bringing boundary-pushing music to Potsdam and the greater Northern New York region. He makes his living as Potsdam Public Library’s Public Services Manager. He thanks PPL for making a home for these performances.

Together, Jerod and William have been co-collaborators in the Northern NY improvised and experimental music scene since 2019. Casey joined in 2021. The three have performed together in projects to include the improvising Free Jazz sextet Local Service Initiative, and the aa|aa Quartet. William and Casey were invited as performers at the 2025 Rochester Avant Garde A Clue Experimental Music Festival.
An Artifact of Place is their first foray as a trio.
