The Potsdam Juneteenth celebration features brief presentations on the relevance of racial justice and Juneteenth in American history, has fun activities and a bounce house for children, a Black Is Beautiful! Fashion Show, the Electric/ChaCha Slide audience participation, and more. The stage program includes live music with musicians K Twist FM3, Benjamin Mambou & Paul Meyers, ilovee, Odessa, and sound by Barker Productions. AMERICAN HISTORY UPLIFTED The Juneteenth Celebration is a family-friendly event that celebrates the culture of African-Americans and provides a space for Black voices to be lifted. Celebrate Black culture, arts, creativity and Joy! Juneteenth is Freedom Day for African-Americans, a celebration to mark the day when the last remaining American enslaved peopl learned they were finally free from bondage in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865, nearly two years after President Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation. MORE EVENT DETAILS: All Are Welcome The public is invited to learn about Juneteenth, African-American culture, and local history through entertainment and brief presentations. A Native American Land Acknowledgement will open the event at 3 pm. Food! We are not able to provide the traditional full free meal this year, but are pleased to promote the area's only Black-owned food truck, Alexander Dogs, who will be on site with hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage, chicken sandwiches, fries, pulled pork!
