Her novel The Fire Starters won the EU Prize for Literature for Ireland in 2019. Her latest works include The Raptures (2022) and Quickly, While They Still Have Horses (2024). Jan is the Seamus Heaney Centre Fellow at Queen’s University Belfast (2025) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. She has also adapted The Velveteen Rabbit for the stage. Her writing has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and 4 and RTE.
