Join us for The Turtle Survey, an exciting hands-on research initiative in partnership with the Virginia Living Museum. Our ongoing study monitors the freshwater turtle populations in Lake Ballard to better understand local species diversity and track the concentration of invasive species.

Several times a year, our researchers set live-capture traps to conduct comprehensive health and population checks, and the public is invited to see our field research in action. Visitors can witness conservation live by watching firsthand as researchers safely handle, identify, and assess local turtles.
