In May of 2020, a standoff between a small-town sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and mayor (Pedro Pascal) sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico. Directed by Ari Aster, with Luke Grimes, Emma Stone and Austin Butler. An A24 Films release.

Eddington is probably Aster’s strongest film visually, with cinematographer Darius Khondji creating the light and shadow for some sweeping, gently ironic evocations of Old West and Old Hollywood myth-making. -Chicago Tribune
