AI in Engineering - Technical Lecture

This Lecture explores the growing integration of artificial intelligence, particularly machine learning, within engineering industries. Dr. Smart highlights how electro-mechanical systems, due to their predictable physical processes and rich data environments, are especially suitable for AI-driven innovation. The session will examine real-world, externally funded projects to showcase both the opportunities, such as improved efficiency, safety, and workforce development, and the challenges, including implementation barriers and uncertain outcomes.

Dr Edward Smart is a Reader with over 15 years of experience in data analysis and machine learning, known for leading industry-academic collaborations across sectors including maritime, aerospace, and manufacturing.
